Wadham Lodge coach Neil Day has called on his side to embrace the atmosphere at Clapton on Saturday.

There was no Essex Senior League game for Lodge at the weekend due to Bowers and Pitsea's involvement in the FA Vase.

But Tony Ievoli’s men face a tough week ahead as they visit the league’s best supported team next Saturday.

Lodge remain in fifth place whilst Saturday's hosts, Clapton, sit eighth following last Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Sawbridgeworth.

Lodge coach Day is fully aware of the challenges of visiting the Old Spotted Dog and sent a message to the players ahead of Saturday.

"When you go to Clapton you can be guaranteed they will have fantastic, passionate support," he said.

"The playing surface won't quite be of Wembley standard, shall we say, but the challenge is to try to harness these elements to your own favour if at all possible.

"We played well on a heavy surface last time out, so it will be interesting to see how the team go about their business on Saturday."

Day continued: "We’ve worked hard to pick up a fan base of our own this year and quite a few are planning to make this their first major away day.

"Hopefully the noise won’t be all way and our players will get a little lift from seeing and hearing some support of their own."

Waltham Forest saw their home clash against league-leaders Basildon United postponed due to the poor weather. The Stags host Newham on Saturday.
