London Raiders slipped to seventh with their fourth consecutive National Ice Hockey League South One defeat on Sunday, going down 5-2 at Oxford City Stars.

That defeat followed a 6-2 loss at home to Chelmsford Chieftains on Saturday evening in the National League Cup at Lee Valley.

Oxford opened the scoring after three minutes through Boris Ruzicka and were in control from there on.

Mason Webster was given two minutes for hooking soon after and the home side took advantage of the powerplay, with Joshua Florey adding a second for the Stars.

The game was punctuated by a spate of fights, the first of which saw Webster sent to the penalty box along with Stars captain Darren Elliott.

More fights marred the first period before Raiders captain Tom Davis reduced the arrears at the start of the second.

Benjamin William Ealey-Newman and Alan Green further extended the home side’s advantage, though.

Ill-discipline continued to thwart the Raiders with David Oliver sent to the box for cross-checking before Davis helped himself to a second.

Oliver made a brief return to the ice before being sent back to the penalty box.

A fight then broke out after the Raiders weren’t awarded what they felt were justified penalties.

But the Raiders couldn’t capitalise on a five-on-three powerplay and Michael Whillock finally completed the win.

Barry Chittock and Sebastian Downing scored in Saturday’s defeat to Chelmsford, by which time the Raiders were already 2-0 down.

Two goals in each of the remaining periods did for the hosts.
