Wadham Lodge made it a clean sweep in E17 derbies this season, beating struggling Waltham Forest 3-1 in the Essex Senior League.

Waltham Forest always threatened but Lodge were in the ascendency throughout as goals from Janel Alexander, Andrea Mantovani and Charlie Georgiou gave ‘the visitors’ to Kitchener Road – shared by both teams – a comfortable cushion.

Jose Agua did pull one back for Forest, who remain rooted at the bottom, but it wasn’t enough for Turgut Esendagli’s side.

Meanwhile, Lodge are up to fifth ahead of Wednesday night’s clash with improving Enfield 1893.

Wadham Lodge coach Neil Day was pleased with his side’s performance despite the difficult conditions. Speaking afterwards, he said: “The occasion and the heavy conditions meant this was probably never going be a game for the purists.

“But local bragging rights were at stake and we would have taken a scrappy 1-0.

“The fact that we tried to play some good football as well was to our credit and we could have scored a few more as Forest pushed forward near the end.

“All in all it was a good day for the club and we continue to move forward both on and off the pitch.”

Waltham Forest travelled to Eton Manor on Wednesday evening. The Stags visit Burnham Ramblers on Saturday. Wadham Lodge host FC Romania.
