Redbridge slumped to the foot of the Isthmian Division One North standings as they went down 6-1 at home to relegation rivals Romford on Saturday.

With just ten fixtures remaining the Motormen have an increasingly daunting task on their hands in order to avoid relegation.

Having shipped 119 league goals this season Ricky Eaton and Dave Ross’ side are now eight points shy of Waltham Abbey who are currently safe in 21st.

The Abbotts’ match at home to Maldon & Tiptree was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The first attempt of the game came from Romford when Nick Reynolds' effort was gathered by Callum Chafer.

A great chance for Redbridge followed when Paulius Ditkevicius fed Reside Coxi Sebastfao who held off his marker and saw his shot saved by Michael Gooch.

Romford were then denied when a 30-yard effort from Jamie Dicks seemed to be heading for the top corner. However, it was superbly tipped away by the diving Chafer.

Dicks then headed a good opportunity over before Romford did take the lead. A poor clearance fell for Joe Scott who fired home.

Redbridge ended the half with a good chance from a corner which Ditkevicius curled wide.

Ade Cole started a five-goal second-half blitz by waltzing through the home defence to earn a corner. The ball finally fell at the feet of Scott who tapped in his second.

Things immediately went from bad to worse for Redbridge when Tom Potter got in on the act to make it 3-0.

Charlie Portway got a goal back a minute later but it was to be scant consolation. Romford were now attacking with menace and looked like scoring each time they broke forward. The third goal arrived when Reynolds went through and slotted home.

The post then prevented Scott from completing his hat-trick after he broke free. His effort beat Chafer but bounced back off the upright.

They were not to be denied again and Tom Anderson curled in a sumptuous effort leaving Chafer with no chance.

Romford had not finished the scoring there and a free kick was drilled home by Jamie Dicks, evading everyone before nestling in the back of the net to complete an emphatic victory.

Redbridge travel to AFC Sudbury on Saturday while Waltham Abbey visit Cray Wanderers.
