Chingford fighter Matthew Chanda gets his first title shot on Saturday night when he meets Jamie Speight to contest the vacant Southern Area super bantamweight title at York Hall.

Chanda (5-0) has not been out since his second-round win over Slaveya Stefanov in November in which the Bulgarian retired claiming an elbow injury.

That was the 29-year-old’s first bout since 2013. In 2009 the Zambia-born puncher was victim of an unprovoked assault which left him with a fractured skull and deaf in one ear.

However, after being cleared by the Boxing Board of Control to resume his career, Chanda now faces a step-up in class as he takes on Devon’s Jamie Speight (13-8).

The 27-year-old won the Southern Area super-featherweight strap in 2012.

He then dropped weight to fight, unsuccessfully, for the bantamweight, super-bantamweight and featherweight Southern Area titles.

His last fight was at featherweight in September.
