ALL THE LATEST ACTION FROM THE STOW WALTHAMSTOW trainer Mark Wallis spoke of his delight after seeing his veteran January Tiger add the Duffy Group Test title to the Grand Prix crown also won at the east London track.

The Imperial Kennels charge had been well drawn in trap six and set off at a short priced 5-4 before Thursday night's £3,000, 640m final. Seamus Cahill's Big Brett Coal, who went into the race on the back of seven straight wins on home soil was still sent off as the 10-11 favourite despite an awful draw in three.

But expected trouble at the first put paid to Cahill's charge as Tiger, having pinged the lids, was already in control.

After Cahill's second string' Ceroc Gypsy also fell away in the latter stages of the race, it was left to Classy Star to chase home Tiger, but the challenge was to prove too little too late as Wallis' charge came home over a length clear in 39.66secs (going -15).

His handler said: "Despite reaching veteran status last month, we always knew that January Tiger still had a great chance of winning this competition so we certainly wasn't surprised with this result.

"He ran a great race and I believe we have still got plenty of competitive racing ahead of us with this dog."

Walthamstow remains very busy this week, with Monday's BAGS meeting the stage for the Ladbrokes Hurdle final.

Kildare Lark the fastest in qualifying from the heats will probably start the slight favourite for the £1,000 race. Gary Baggs Strong Flow will lead the home charge, although his railer will not only have to get over a bad draw in three he will also need to improve on his calculated heat winning time of 29.45secs.

Grand National winner Jos Cigar, while winning his heat, will also need to improve on his calculated time of 29.53secs for any chance of landing more final success.

Monday's final line-up: 1 Kildare Lark, 2 Tommy Bahama, 3 Strong Flow, 4 Snazzy Time, 5 Xamax Mr Grumpy, 6 Jos Cigar.

Prior to that the heats of the £10,000 Graphite Puppy Derby get underway on Saturday. Hayley Keightley's Roxholme King, who produced an impressive 430m trial last week in 26 seconds dead will probably start as the antepost favourite for the competition.

Keightley's railer will however face an early test in the sixth of the eight heats on the night, as he lines-up against Cahill's impressive youngster Droopys Boss.
