South Woodford 186-5
Hornchurch 229-9(dec)
(Division One)

SOUTH were denied a certain victory over high-flying Hornchurch, after a heavy downpour brought a premature end to this Highfield Road clash.

The visitors opened the batting and struggled their way to 222-9 from their allotted overs, with only Anthony Sealey (76) and Lee Benson (39) getting among the runs.

Saleem Akbar and Simon Correya both enjoyed good afternoons with the ball as they helped themselves to four wickets each, while Garry Neico managed to secure a wicket from his massive 20 over spell.

Thanks to knocks of 32 runs each from Nick Browne and Rizwan Akram, coupled with undefeated innings of 43 and 23 by Kevin Smith and Harry Shirt respectively the hosts looked set to overhaul Hornchurch's total.

But with 5.4 overs and just 44 runs needed for victory the heavens opened and forced the players to leave the pitch for the last time that day.
