BANTHAM AND ONGAR:
Bridie Bailey and Doreen Oddy beat current 2-wood champion Carol Riley and singles finalist Eve Done, from Shell, 23-18 in the preliminary round of the Over 55's Pairs. They meet Clockhouse next.

Oddy also won at home in the preliminary round of the Over 55's Singles, overcoming Buckhurst Hill's Daphne Wood 21-9.

In the county triples, Bailey, Oddy and Brenda Perrett went down to Quendon 12-26 in bad weather conditions.

Perrett lost 14-21 at home in the preIiminary round of the Champion of Champions to the current Over 55's Singles holder Val Bingley from Larsen and Oddy lost 8-21 to Epping's Chris Edmonds away in the Unbadged .

Keith Lodge beat C Jaycock of Brentwood 21-6 at home in the Brentwood & District Bowling Association first round singles, while in the Brentwood & District League Bantham lost by 66 shots to 88 for a 4-5 points deficit to Elm Park. Jim Heppel, Cliff Morris and Keith Lodge 24-12; Bill Cook, Len Harris and Fred Balcombe 18-15; Don A. Wood, Bruce Hopking and Eric Monk 11-22; Bill Cox, Danny Bentley and Reg Avey 13-33.

They lost 52- 56 away in the Chelmsford & District League, taking one point, to Stock A's nine. Mike Nash, Dave Stacey, Geoff Hyatt and George Finbow 15-15; Ralph Cooper, Gerald Murfitt, Len Harris and Keith Lodge 22-23; Jim Heppel, Bill Cook, Don Hedges and Ron Rotheray 15-18.

Bantham took the maximum ten points with a 84-49 win in the Essex & Herts League against Thaxted. Hazel Issitt, Don Hedges and Ron Oddy 25-12, Brian Issitt, Ted Dew and George Finbow 21-10; Ken McKinley, June Ashley and Alan Topliff 18-11; Mick Watson, Iris Topliff and Gerald Murfitt 20-16.

BUCKHURST HILL:
The ladies entered four teams in the Essex County Triples.

One withdrew through illness, but the other three won their first round matches. There were two defeats in the second round, but Ros Pike, Carol Freeman & Daphne Wood were successful.

In their first match in the Albert Shield League the ladies' lost on both rinks to Rainham. The men played in miserable conditions in the Simon Shield, to beat Loughton 12-0 - Peter Tuff with the highest winning rink.

In the Thursday Fours League Division Two, Hill's B beat Wadham A but the C team lost to Griffin A. In Division Four, the A team beat Chingford D, the D team lost to Durants Park A, and the E yeam beat Wadham B. In friendlies, the ladies' beat Larsens and won their rink against Albany Park, but the men lost both of theirs.

WADHAM:
Entertained an Essex County Executive team at Kitchener Road on Sunday, winning the rain reduced game 28-0. Top rink for Wadham were Bert Scott, Derek Baptie, Doug Talbot and Len Smith.

Earlier in the week, two Wadham teams faced Aveling Park players in the Hedley Stearnes Memorial Trophy. Steve Powell, Len Smith, George Coster and Norman McDonald won 17-16, but Bert Scott, Derek Baptie, Reg Marsh and Doug Talbot lost 12-26.

In the Clarke-White league, Wadham beat Chingford Ainslie Wood. Steve Powell, Alan Green, Reg Marsh and George Coster's 32-9 more than compensated for the 15-17 scoreline in the reverse leg played by Ron Farnell, Derek Brown, Derek Baptie and Len Smith.

In the Thursday Fours, Buckhurst Hill sides beat Derek Brown, Harry Snares, Derek Baptie and Ed Stevens 13-26 and Ron Farnell, Alan Green, Tony Marsh and Bert Scott 15-21.

WANSTEAD:
The club secured a maximum ten points on Sunday with a comfortable 63-46 shot victory over Wanstead Central in the Ilford and District League.

D.K.Sharma, Sid Lazarus, Alan Carter and Len Pendry beat skipper L. Welton's side 25-15; Ian Robertson, Ron Brown, Alan Edgar and John Strudwick beat S. Welsh 22-16; Mo Ahmed, Jeff Smith, Dave Brackett and Steve Forrest beat B.Jones 16-15.

Wanstead ladies beat Buckhurst Hill by 82 shots to 79 in their first round Top Club encounter last Sunday. Chris Strudwick lost 20-23; Carol Ludlow, Trudie Halcrow, Beryl Hughes and Sheila Batchelor lost 18-26; Dorothy Savage and Maureen Bown won 24-17;Val Robertson, Peggy Hammond and Liz Batchelor won 20-15.

Wanstead lost both rinks against Woodford in the Redbridge Afternoon League giving Woodford four points and Wanstead nothing.

Ian Robertson, Ron Brown, Alan Edgar and John Strudwick lost 13-20 to L.Warren's foursome; D.K.Sharma, Jeff Smith, Jim Sidnell and Bob Ellis lost 16-19 to D.Wright's.

They hosted to Barking in the Valence League winning two rinks to one despite an overall shot deficit of 53-62 to secure four points to Barking's three.

Skipper Bryan Kelly's triple won 25-19; Alf Kitchener's triple won 18-16 and Terry Batchelor's triple lost 10 -27.

John and Chris Strudwick saw off Rod Hudson and Angela Hudson 21-13 in the first round of the National Mixed Pairs and returned to Wanstead Central to beat M and L Welton 20-13 in the second round.

WANSTEAD CENTRAL:
Lost out to Connaught in the County Shield by 69-76 shots after both teams won two rinks each.

T.Lichkin, C.Foster, S.Welsh, G.Dulieu won 19-17; K.Lloyd, M.Bird, R.Anderson, J.Reynolds lost 17-20; B.Jones, L.Welton, R.Druce, R.Hudson won 20-17; R.Hughes, J.Woolford, R.Green, P.Whellams lost 13-22.

In the National Double Fours competition Central B went down to a strong Pegasus 37-43. K.Lloyd, T.Pratt, M.Bird, S.Welsh drew 20-20; B.Jones, J.Woolford, L.Welton, R.Druce lost 17-23. Central A will attempt to extract revenge when they meet Pegasus in the next round of the competition on Sunday, June 3.

In the Valence Triples League current champions Central won away at Clementswood 55-46, securing five points to Clementswood's two.

T.Seago, M.Bird, S.Welsh won 24-10; T.Pratt, R.Anderson, R.Druce won 20-12; L.Welton, W.Wray, J.Reynolds lost 11-24.

Central won their first Ilford District League match of the season with an overall 74-52 shot victory over Seven Kings, winning on all three rinks for maximum ten points.

G.Rose, G.Curtis, T.Pratt, L.Welton won 21-16; F.Frid, S.Edwards, P.Norgate & R.Druce won 29-23; R.Kenny, J.Sankey, M.Smallwood, J.Ellis won 24-13.

Central progressed to the next round of the London Parks Jackson Shield competition when Clayhall conceded the second leg of the match scheduled for Sunday due to the weather with Central holding a 24 shot lead from the first leg.
