ONGAR-based boxer Chris Smith secured his third straight win for new club Newham at the Yeovil open show at the weekend.

The 13-year-old was up against a very tall A Collins from Sydenham, but showed good counter punching to claim a unanimous decision from the judges, who scored the contest, 15-2, 11-2 and 9-5 in Smith's favour.

Fellow Ongar resident Luke Coppin racked up the miles over the weekend to compete in a Four Nations tournament in Scotland.

The 15-year-old, who won the Schoolboys Golden Gloves title with his home-town club earlier in the season secured an excellent silver medal, after just being shaded out by Zak Davies of Wales in the final.

Reflecting on events Newham coach Joe Chapman said: "Both Chris and Luke have really settled in since coming over to us from Ongar.

"Both boxed really well at the weekend, with Chris beating another very difficult opponent and Luke fighting well to secure a silver medal at an international event."
