DANISH Kaneria is already causing concern among batsmen around the country, having bagged 29 county wickets this season.

And he promises more troubled times ahead for willow wielders if his latest tactic proves successful.

The 26-year-old has spent hours in the nets developing a delivery he intends to expose for the first time this week at Swansea against Glamorgan.

"I have been busy working on a new delivery," he said. "We didn't have a match for a week recently so I was able to spend many hours in the nets. I call it the tweaker' but I'm not prepared to say yet what it does.

"I need to bowl it a few more times in the nets before I will have the confidence to unleash it regularly in matches. But I do intend to give it an airing this week."

With county cricket reverting to just one overseas player in 2008, Essex face a dilemma in their choice of player. But Kaneria has made it crystal clear he would love to continue representing Essex in the years ahead, providing international calls permit.

He added: "Although I am grateful to Essex for giving me the opportunitie to play county cricket, my first preference is always to play for Pakistan and I am available for them whenever they want me.

"But I'd love to come back to Essex, I've made a lot of friends here and everybody has been so friendly since I first arrived three years ago.

"I want to win trophies and I'd love to achieve that with Essex. Although we are struggling a little in the County Championship at the moment, we do have a good chance of winning a one-day competitions.

"I'd like to think that we can turn our four-day form around and lay down a promotion challenge."

Apart from bowling developments, Kaneria has also been working on his batting and showed his talents when he hit a career-best 65 against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, where Essex capitulated to defeat by an innings and 112 runs.

Essex are currently in action at Swansea where they meet Glamorgan in a County Championship match. On Sunday, Ronnie Irani's men move on to Whitgift School, Croydon, where Surrey host a Friends Provident Trophy match.
