THERE were scenes of joy at the England Hockey Plate final for Old Loughtonians U18 boys team after they swept to a 4-0 victory at Bowdon Hockey Club.

Two goals in each half made sure the Chigwell-based club cruised to victory last weekend against Wakefield in a game which had many stoppages due to injury.

The Yorkshire club could have taken the lead within 30 seconds when a shot was saved at the near post by keeper Chris Naven.

This early wake up call shook Old Loughtonians, although it wasn't until the 30th minute that they took the lead when Harry Andrews came off the bench to score in open play.

The advantage was doubled just before half time with another goal from open play by Jonny Sloman.

Two goals in the second half by Liam Doidge took the match away from Wakefield to ensure that the plate went back to Chigwell.

The first of these was scored in open play on 40 minutes, before he fired home a penalty stroke six minutes from time.

Delighted manager Martin Williams said: "This was a great win for us and I'm sure the tremendous support that the lads had on the day spurred them on.

"And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors Higgins Group as well for all their support this season."
