THE Roding Rifle and Pistol Club has the 2012 Olympics in its sights.
The Buckhurst Hill club, which has produced several national champions, is holding a visitor vouchered open day at its Loughton Way air rifle range on Sunday to give potential shooters the chance to have a go as part of the Government sponsored National Rifle Week.
Shooting accounted for 23 out of the United Kingdom's 116 medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and UK shooters have an excellent Olympic record, with the Roding club looking ahead to training competitors to present to the 2012 selection committee.
National champions including Alan Podevin, who received the Tate and Lyle Aggregate Champions Trophy from UK international competitor Janet Rayment. He will be on hand to provide coaching for beginners on Sunday, while the the club's National Rifle Association military trained range officers will be overseeing the event and ensuring safety.
Essex Police Firearms Licensing Department will be handing out safety leafets and will be there to answer questions.
