WOODFORD Green with Essex Ladies discus athlete Chris Linque competed in the men’s final at the CAU inter-county championships on Sunday.

The 28-year-old threw 50.83m and finished above fellow club member Devon Douglas, who achieved 48.45m.

Paul Scanlan competed in the men’s 800m and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals as he crossed the line in a time of 1.53.96.

Andrew Mariani continued his good form since returning to quality track action as he finished in 1.57.38.

Sprinter Sarah Busby competed in the women’s 100m and 200m and she missed out by 0.01 seconds on qualifying for the 100m final with a time of 11.99. She also missed out on qualifying for the 200m final with 24.86.

In the men’s 100m Eugene Ayanful reached the final but finished last in 10.52 as bobsleigh athlete Joel Fearon won with 9.96, the third joint-fastest time ever by a Briton.

Ayanful had earlier cruised through the heats and the semi-final with times of 10.53 and 10.43.

Tomaz Plibersek rounded off the track athletes for the club as he finished the 3000m steeplechase in 9.41.10.

Back in the field, Woodford Green’s Thalosong Tshireletso and Peter Kirabo both competed in the men’s triple jump, reaching distances of 15.26m and 13.80m.

Chanel Hemmings achieved 11.01m in the women’s triple jump pool but it was not enough for her to gain a place in the final.

Anthony Oshodi came second in the shot putt final with 16.12m as he triumphed over Youcef Zatat, who came third with 15.67m.

Linque also achieved a new personal best this month at the LEAP meeting in Loughborough where he placed third with 50.87m.

Lucy Marshall, who also took part at the meeting, came fifth with 60.79m in the hammer throw over HCA member Myra Perkins with 59.

Mariani also competed at Eltham along with Linque who achieved 49.03m in the discus throw.

The 800m runner placed fifth in the A 800m men’s group finishing with a time of 1:53.11 seconds.

James Stockings also took part at the event was finished second in the men’s 800m B group with 1:56.09 seconds and Christman Ihume recorded 13.41m in the triple jump.
