Wadham Lodge had some time off from Essex Senior League action at the weekend but will resume their campaign at home to Stansted this Saturday.

Stansted will start the game in sixth after a consistent campaign in what is a stark contrast to Lodge, who have dropped to 17th after a 3-1 defeat to Basildon United last time out.

After a good run in the FA Vase as they knocked out Wivenhoe Town, Enfield 1893 and Hertford Town en route to a second round clash with Ely City, Lodge have a cause for optimism against their tough opponents at the weekend.

Lodge manager Neil Day said: “Obviously I am concerned with our league position as ultimately this is what you are judged on.

“And I think it’s clear we are underachieving when you look at the undoubted quality we have in the squad.

“The Vase has been an entirely different story as we’ve dug in every time we’ve played and importantly availability has been better than normal.

“We need to take the lessons we have learnt in our cup run forward to the league and hopefully start climbing the table sooner rather than later.”

But their ESL counterparts Waltham Forest played against Enfield 1893 on Tuesday and emerged as 4-1 winners and have now scored 14 goals in the last three games against their opponents.

Waltham opened the scoring through Omar Nyame after he was set up by Rheo Josephs.

A second soon followed but just before half-time Enfield found a way back into the game after Forest gave away a sloppy free-kick.

The second half started like the first and it was not long before Waltham added their third as Josephs curled a ball into the danger area and former Stags player Andrew Tirivanhu chested into his own net. And six minutes later they added a fourth after Nyame’s free-kick was turned into the net.

Forest were also in action at the weekend as they drew 1-1 with Tower Hamlets.

Jeff Hammond opened the scoring for Forest in the 43rd minute before Sergio Sheymz equalised in the second half.
