Eton Manor recorded their third win on the bounce as they defeated old adversaries Thurrock 18-8 in London One North on Saturday.

It didn’t take long for Thurrock to get on the scoreboard as they were given a penalty in front of the posts in the first two minutes of play.

And soon after the visitors increased their lead as they drove into Manor’s defence, setting up a ruck.

From there Thurrock’s Number 8 picked up the ball and made 40 metres before being brought to ground at the 22.

Although Manor tried to realign, the damage had already been down and the visitors passed along the line for their opening try just after four minutes, but missed the conversion.

Manor got themselves on the board through a Nick Sheppard penalty after Andrew Connors was brought down.

The home side were given another seven minutes later after Manor had won a scrum having forced a knock on.

Manor gave away a penalty at the scrum but then a disagreement between the front two rows saw George Cosma and Thurrock’s tighthead prop both shown a yellow card.

The penalty was reversed in Manor’s favour and Sheppard made the kick to bring his side to within two points.

From that stage, Manor were the better of the two sides and got their first try after Misiona Evagelia was quickest to react to a loose ball from a scrum. A successful conversion put the home side 13-8 up.

Manor managed to turn the ball over and after a long kick ahead by Nick Horton, the home side found themselves pressing inside their opponents’ 22.

George Harman tried to pass backwards and was tackled but managed to snatch the loose ball and set up another attack which resulted in a penalty.

Sheppard missed the chance but with time almost up Thurrock tried to run the ball out from behind their own line.

From a lineout Tom O’Connor caught the ball and Manor line worked their way forward only to be brought down illegally five metres short, but the referee played the advantage.

James Osborn drove over from close range for the match-clinching score.
