Wadham Lodge's up and down season continued as they crashed to a 5-2 home defeat against sixth placed Stansted in the Essex Senior League on Saturday.

Lodge settled well but the Airportmen were soon on cruise control taking a three goal lead before the interval.

Things went from bad to worse after the break as the visitors took a five goal lead on the 70 minute mark.

The Kitchener Road outfit did make a late rally as goals from Aaron Churchouse and a last minute Fehenti Falola penalty brought some respectability to the scoreline.

Wadham manager Neil Day said: "Myself and Kevin (Lucas –Assistant Manager) spend a long time selecting a side we thing will do a job, the reason this side caved in quite so spectacularly is really hard to fathom.

"What I do know is we need to see a massive improvement next week if we want to progress any further in the competition-let’s hope the boys can bounce back and respond to the criticism which came their way after Saturday’s game."

Lodge take on Ely City on Saturday in the FA Vase Trophy with a 3pm kick off.

It was also bad news for Waltham Forest who fell to a 4-1 defeat against Southend Manor at the Southchurch Arena.

Forest came into the game after an impressive 4-1 win over Enfield 1893 but failed to get out of the starting blocks.

Manor saw Sam Short and Michael Hopkins net in the first period to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at the break and two minutes into the second half Callum Jex netted in straight from a corner.

Callum Ibe struck four minutes later to see the hosts open up a four goal lead.

Forest did pull one goal back to reduce the deficit but it was a mere consolation.
