Chingford are three points behind leaders Tring in London One North after they were 45-22 victors at Barking on Saturday.

The two teams remain the only sides unbeaten in the league.

Fellow London One North side Eton Manor drew with last year’s London Two North East winners Saffron Walden 29-29.

Walden recorded their first score after 15 minutes when they broke down the Manor defence and a player went in unopposed with the conversion successful.

But later Eton were level as Freddie Newbury dived over the line just as the referee awarded a penalty try with Nick Sheppard adding the extras.

The hosts were next to score after they won a couple of lineouts and following good driving play, their swift back line worked the ball out wide where their wing squeezed the ball over the line at the corner.

Manor found themselves 17-7 down after 30 minutes following a penalty.

But the away side quickly reduced the deficit as John Robinson drove over from close range.

From the restart, George Harman made good ground before James Osborn slipped through a gap and made 20 metres and entered Walden’s 22.

After the scrum, Manor turned the ball over and drove over the line but were unable to ground the ball initially. But Garth Tucker was able to score the third try.

Jack Sullivan was given a yellow card for a no arms tackle though and Walden took advantage of their extra man to score a try but missed the conversion. Walden had increased their lead to 29-17 after 15 minutes of the second period as they worked on Manor’s stretched defence which saw a space for the hosts full-back open up to gather the ball and go behind the posts.

It took a solo effort from Newbury to reduce the deficit and Harman took on the kicking duties, adding the extra points.

And Newbury scored Manor’s fifth to tie the contest, but their hopes of victory slipped by as the conversion was missed.

Epping Upper Clapton and Woodford both picked up wins in London Two North East as Epping narrowly defeated Holt 17-15 to go fifth in the table.

Woodford are one place further back after they beat Norwich 12-8 at home.

Wanstead recorded a comfortable 52-7 win over Upminster to sit third in London Three North East.
