Essex Alliance Football League Division Two side Avondale Rangers almost caused a shock in the Fenton Cup over Rainham Working Mens Club.
The Premier Division side emerged as the 6-5 penalty shoot-out winners to progress to the next round.
Premier Division
In Saturday’s only Premier Division match, Chingford Athletic emphatically put their Melbourne Sports hoodoo behind them to win 5-0 and go top of the table.
Charlie Heatley scored a brace with Gary Murray and Zaikhan Kazley also finding the back of the net.
But second-placed Jolof Sports still have a game in hand.
Division One
The top two sides in Division One were both victorious at the weekend and remain unbeaten.
Leaders Colebrook Royals secured a comfortable 4-0 win over Sporting Hackney Reserves with the league’s leading marksman, Chris Stowe, netting twice.
Further goals from George Brislen-Hall and Ben Cooper completed the scoring for the Royals.
But right on their heels are local rivals Three Colts who beat West Essex Reserves 3-2.
Goals from Richard Blackwell, Matthew Daley and Julian Bryant saw the Colts secure their victory, cancelling out efforts from Lloyd Renvoize and debutant Tom Macleod.
East Ham International ran out 3-1 winners over Singh Sabha Barking to claim their second victory of the campaign.
Division Two
Chigwell Rovers secured their maiden league victory on Saturday with a narrow 3-2 win over Glendale.
A John Taylor double for the Dales proved not enough as Rovers held on to secure victory through goals from Jake Cuthbert, James Barlow and Will Osmond.
Forest Green forced Colebrook Royals Reserves to drop their first league points of the season as the latter rescued a 2-2 draw.
Ashley Somers was on target with both of the Royals’ goals to secure a share of the spoils and keep their grip on second place.
The Lymore Gardens and Old Barkabbeyans Reserves game ended 0-0 in what was a rare goalless draw with the defences and goalkeepers coming out on top.
