Waltham Forest had a mixed bag of results last week after they lost 2-0 to Barking FC on Saturday in the Essex Senior League.

A goal in each half from John Bricknell and Omari Delgado were enough to seal the victory for their side.

But in their midweek derby Forest secured their first victory over rivals Wadham Lodge in three attempts after a spirited second half performance.

The home side was bolstered by the returns of Prince Madu and Ahmed Mohammed while Wadham had parted company with manager Neil Day just 24 hours before.

Despite this, it was Wadham who opened the scoring with Larry Asare dropping the shot into the bottom corner from distance.

Towards the end of the first half Forest finally found their feet and were given a penalty when Wadham’s keeper Michael Caracino took out Jeff Hammond.

Harry Larner stepped up but his penalty was easily saved and the half ended 1-0 to Lodge.

In the second, Forest came out with more bite and almost levelled when Lee Flynn’s free-kick rattled the crossbar.

But it was Hammond who was at the heart of the rival and his cross from the by-line was headed in by Madu into the tiniest of gaps between the keeper and the post to level the score.

And soon the home side added another when Pelummy Martin crossed for Hammond to head home emphatically to gain the lead for the first time.

Martin made sure of the three points just before the end latching onto a through-ball and bending his effort past the keeper.

At the other end, Harrison Seetah made a good save to keep the score down but Forest controlled well to secure the victory.

Lodge’s week did not get better falling to a 2-1 defeat to Takeley FC away from home.

Two goals from Bryn Thorpe were enough to seal the match with Viadut Gabriel Sighiartau scoring the only goal for Wadham.
