LEYTON'S ice hockey team, the Lee Valley Lions, has a new manager for the forthcoming 2007/08 campaign.

Sue Ranby, mother of up-and-coming Lions star Michael Ranby, replaces Deryk Beeson.

Family and work commitments have forced Beeson to step down, although he will still be helping out at the club where possible.

Ranby has been involved with junior development at Lee Valley for the past nine years and was asked to manage the U14s team six years ago.

As son Michael moved up through the junior ranks, Mrs Ranby managed each age group for which he played.

Michael eventually progressed to join the men's team, alongside other notable former juniors such as Stas Prokofiev, Michael Jacobs and netminder George Alley.

Ranby was made assistant manager to Beeson last year.

English National League South fixtures are yet to be announced but further information about the Lions can be found at www.
