Waltham Forest’s six game winless run under player-manager Ryan Maxwell continued, as they were defeated 2-0 by West Essex on Friday night away from home.

West Essex were in control from the off with Michael Mignot hitting the post after rounding the goalkeeper, before the Waltham Forest defenders then cleared an effort off the line to prevent the hosts from taking an early lead.

In the end, West Essex’s pressure was to prevail 12 minutes into the second half, as Brad Russell played the ball into Mignon, who took a touch and fired the ball into the bottom corner.

The hosts then sealed the three points six minutes from time when Joe Lefley’s brilliant free-kick nestled into the back of the net, condemning Forest to their third defeat in four games.

Forest still remain just a point above the relegation zone with just five games remaining, while West Essex leapfrogged Tower Hamlets to move up to seventh place.

Meanwhile, it was a better weekend for Bostik North Division side Waltham Abbey, as Mitch Hahn’s goal on the stroke of half-time secured a crucial point against Norwich United.

Matt Blake had struck for Norwich in the seventh minute, but Hahn’s equaliser two minutes from half-time earnt Abbey a point, leaving them in 16th place in the table.

Wadham Lodge couldn’t back up their morale boosting win over Barkingside last Monday with another positive result, as they were beaten 3-1 by Redbridge in mid-week and thrashed by Basildon United at the weekend.

A double from Brian Moses and a strike from Liam Thomas saw Redbridge down Wadham Lodge in mid-week and Marc Farrell’s men got off to the worst possible start on Saturday, with James Peagram capitalising on an error to put Basildon ahead inside three minutes.

Ollie Spooner and Marcus Bowers increased the visitor’s lead before half-time and they wrapped up the three points on the hour mark, when substitute Jack Adlington added a fourth.

Daniel Francis pulled one back 13 minutes from time when his deflected free kick found the back of the net, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation and Wadham Lodge remain in the relegation zone, just one point behind Waltham Forest.

Meanwhile, Redbridge returned to the top of the Essex Senior League table with a comfortable 3-0 win over promotion rivals Takeley.

Fresh from beating Wadham Lodge in mid-week, Redbridge got off to a bright start when Brian Moses put them ahead in the 14th minute and they doubled their advantage soon after when Thomas Gogo raced through and fired home.

Moses was to go from hero to zero in the second half, as he was sent off alongside a Takeley player for an altercation inside the area, with the referee subsequently awarding Redbridge a penalty. Gogo dispatched the spot-kick to double his tally and score Redbridge’s third to secure a crucial victory, leaving them top of the table with 80 points.

Lastly, it was a disappointing weekend for Ilford, as they were condemned to a 3-1 home defeat by Enfield 1893.

Early goals from Dan Chambers and Ayo Odukoya put the visitor’s ahead inside the first 15 minutes, before Ilford’s Harry Watkins pulled one back from the spot ten minutes later.

But Ilford were sucker punched when Aundre Spencer scored the visitors' third with twenty minutes remaining, leaving Allan Fenn’s men in ninth place in the Essex Senior League.
