Aspiring sailors in Waltham Abbey will be able to channel their inner Ben Ainslie next weekend, with Fishers Green Sailing Club offering a free day of sailing for local residents.

The sailing club, based in the Lee Valley Regional Park, will be hosting an open day on Saturday, May 5 from 10am to 4pm, allowing local residents to try out the sport for free alongside an experienced helm.

There will also be a host of other activities on the day, including powerboat trips around the lake, with food and drink also on offer.

The open day forms a part of the Royal Yachting Association’s Push the Boat Out which takes place throughout May and encourages UK residents to try out both sailing and windsurfing through incentives like open days at a number of centres throughout the UK.

Fishers Green Sailing Club commodore, Kevin O’Brien, said: “We’re inviting the local community to come down to have a go at sailing, see what the Fishers Green Sailing Club has to offer and get involved. Who knows, you might just get hooked."
