Leyton Orient Women were leapfrogged by MK Dons in the Women’s Premier League after they were condemned to a 6-2 defeat on their return to action at Brisbane Road.

Early goals from MK Dons’ Vicky Holland and Louise Naylor gave the visitors an early lead, but the O’s rallied on their first appearance at Brisbane Road since October and were back on level terms barely ten minutes later.

Firstly, Sophie Le Marchand stroked an effort past Emma Kirby to hand the O’s a lifeline, before the comeback was complete on the 35 minute mark, when Lisa Holmback slotted her low effort into the bottom corner.

But Orient were to undo all of their hard work just three minutes before half-time, when Laura Mills put MK Dons back in front, having been played through by Alice Hughes.

From there on in, MK Dons were in full control and they extended their lead thanks to a second half brace from Hev McDonnell and a long range effort from Anna Loftus to seal a 6-2 win.

Orient captain Danielle Griffiths said: “We didn’t get off to the best start going two behind. Second half of the first half was very good, we fought back from that to get to 2-2 which was brilliant. Then we just let them get on top. They’re a very good team but we probably didn’t impose ourselves as much as we could.”

The result leaves Orient in fourth place in the table, ahead of their final match of the season against Stevenage Ladies on Sunday. Kick-off is at 2pm, although a venue is yet to be confirmed.
