Walthamstow FC continued their preparations for the new Essex Senior League season with back-to-back wins over Enfield Town’s under-23s and Grays Athletic.

Ryan Maxwell’s men picked up their second pre-season victory on the bounce on Saturday, when Christian Owusu’s penalty was enough to overcome Enfield Town’s under 23s.

Owusu was on the scoresheet once again on Tuesday night, as he helped Walthamstow thrash Grays Athletic 4-0.

New signing James Peagram scored an early double, before Walthamstow were handed a penalty on the stroke of half time, after Lamar Johnson was sent off for Grays following an alleged punch.

Owusu stepped up and rolled home his second spot kick in the space of four days to put Walthamstow 3-0 up at half-time.

Ryan Maxwell’s men then made it four with ten minutes remaining as Kubilay Akbayrak scored the goal of the game with a fantastic free-kick.

Stow’s final friendly takes place on Saturday, when they take on New Salamis at CONEL College.

Elsewhere, Ilford were also in action at the weekend, where they thrashed Harlow Town’s reserves 5-0.

David Oyeleke put the Essex Senior League side in front early on before Danny Haigh doubled their advantage twelve minutes before the break.

A second half brace from Yasseir Nazor was then backed up by a late strike from Ellis Lentell as Ilford ran out comfortable winners.

Meanwhile, Redbridge, who finished in fourth place last season, fought back from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 with current Essex Senior League champions Great Wakering Rovers, while West Essex recorded a 3-1 away win over Stonewall FC.

Billy Cove’s newly reformed Epping Town were also in action and ran out 3-1 winners against Hendon Town’s under 23s.
