Brown battles to bag the best boxer award

WALTHAM Forest Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) captain Aaron Brown made it a hat-trick of wins as a senior with a classy victory at the Five Star and Brentwood show.

The 17-year-old, was handed the best boxer of the night award after seeing off home fighter D Wheeler with a majority points win.

Brown had his large travelling support on their feet as he rocked his opponent with a powerful hook midway through the opening session.

The Forest skipper continued to box with skill throughout the three rounds landing a string of stinging combinations that proved good enough to take a clear decision from the judges.

Brown will be back in action next weekend when he faces J Davricat of Hornchurch at the open show at the Prince Regent Hotel.

Prior to that club-mate Sam Gilley had put on a brave display against Five Stars' experienced J Weedon at the Sudbury Open Show the previous week.

The Forest 13-year-old, boxed well, but found Weedon too tough and was stopped in the second.

Reflecting on events club secretary Ian Cuddy said: "Aaron has made a very successful step-up to the senior ranks and produced an excellent display in what was a brilliant bout.

"Sam also boxed well the other week against a very tough opponent and these are very encouraging signs.

"We've got seven boys out next weekend now and hopefully we will have plenty of winners to talk about then."
