THAI BOXING

THAI Boxers from a Highams Park gym have been proving their capabilities with a series of victories at top competitions across the globe.

Maria Randall, 32 recently returned from the World Traditional Championships in Thailand with a silver medal for both best Yai Khru and best form, while 15-year-old Jack Scott-Roberts took gold at the European Championships in Spain.

Mason Poppy, 11, fought off two heavier opponents to claim the U45kg Ringmasters Championship Belt at the London Seni Exhibition.

All three train at the E4 Health Studio, Hickman Avenue, which is part of the London Muay Thai Academy.

Head coach Gary Wright said: "I'm proud of them all.

"They are very dedicated to it and train by themselves which takes a lot of discipline.

"Maria is now an instructor at the gym while in Jack and Mason we've got two potential world class athletes.

"Jack is ready to go and will need to take up a British title challenge but he has a reputation as a good figther."

He added: "The training is very hard, very physical, and it is not an easy sport to do. There is a lot of cardivascular, sparring and padwork.

"And it's not just about sport but is an important tool for self defence."
