ARSENE Wenger has pleaded with the Arsenal faithful to get behind striker Emmanuel Adebayor after he was jeered during the club's 1-0 win over West Brom on Saturday.
The Togolese forward annoyed fans after a summer of dalliances with AC Milan and Barcelona before eventually putting pen to paper on a new deal with Arsenal worth £80,000 - more than double his previous contract.
But Wenger insisted Adebayor's intentions were taken out of context by agents and that fans should forgive and forget their star striker.
"We have to get behind him and support him because he is of tremendous importance for the team and you want your fans to be behind him," Wenger said. "What happened in the transfer period did not always reflect his deep desire [to stay] and there was manipulation from agents on both sides."
