TOTTENHAM are reportedly interested in AZ Alkmaar defender Sebastien Pocognoli.

The Belgian star has attracted plenty of attention from the likes of Real Betis and Newcastle but it is thought that French champions Lyon are currently leading the chase for the 21-year-old.

Pocognoli has featured heavily for his country, helping to guide them to the semi-finals at the Olympic Games in Beijing and his performances have been catching the eye of some of Europe's biggest clubs.

The left-sided defender has four years to run on his current contract with the Dutch side and is valued at around £6.3million. However, he has made no secret of his desire to play in England and that could open the door for Juande Ramos to swoop.

"The decision [about my future] lies with AZ, but a chance to play in England or Spain would be sensational for me," he told the Spanish press.

A deal could be facilitated by Alkmaar's admiration of Tottenham's out-of-favour left-back Lee Young-pyo, who could be used as a makeweight to bring Pocognoli to White Hart Lane.
