BARCELONA are ready to challenge Tottenham for Sevilla's Diego Capel.

Juande Ramos has been heavily linked with a return to his former club for the left winger this summer but up until now has been rebuffed by Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido.

However Barca are rumoured to be lining up a bid for the 20-year-old Spaniard, after failing in their attempts to sign Andrei Arshavin and David Silva.

Capel has a release clause of £12.3million in his contract - a fee Spurs are thought to have exceeded with a bid but Sevilla claim that they are only required to accept offers in that region from fellow Spanish clubs. But that may be triggered if the Catalan giants decide to pursue their interest.
