SPURS TALK: Ferguson still set to move for Berbatov

DIMITAR Berbatov's on-off move to Manchester United is set to rumble on this week with Red devils chief Sir Alex ferguson now declaring he needs to strengthen his strike force.

The United boss had declared after Sunday's less than convincing 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle that if he had to stick with his current squad for the season then he would be happy.

But Ferguson clearly still harbours hope of signing Spurs frontman Berbatov after declaring he needs at least one more big name striker on his books at Old Trafford, as he looks to repeat the club's famous Treble success of 1999.

“We are working on bringing in another top striker,” Ferguson told the Sun.

“Having added strength up front is a situation I would really enjoy.

“Ideally, I like to operate with four experienced strikers, as we did when we won the Treble when we had Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Solskjaer.”

SPURS could face having sulking striker Dimitar Berbatov left on their books unless they lower their asking price for the player.

The moaning Bulgarian demanded yesterday that Tottenham allow him to fulfil his dream of playing for United. He said: “I’m now in Tottenham but no one can disagree with me wanting to follow my dream.”

But unless the north Londoners lower their asking price of £30million for Berbatov, then United who appear only prepared to go to £18million will make a move for Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.
