DAVID VILLA looks set to put any lingering hopes Tottenham had of signing him to bed as he is thought to be in discussions with Valencia over a new contract.
Spurs are desperately searching for reinforcements up front as Darren Bent is likely to be Juande Ramos' only out and out striker following the departure of Robbie Keane to Liverpool and the imminent transfer of Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United.
Villa, along with Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o, was an ambitious target for Spurs but they have cooled their interest in recent weeks. The confirmation that Spain's Euro 2008 top goalscorer is in negotitations with Los Ches over a new contract looks to have put paid to any potential deal.
Another supposed Spurs target David Silva has also committed his future to the La Liga club.
