OLIVER FISHER’S surge towards the top shows no sign of slowing after the golfer continued his remarkable season with a highly-impressive eighth-place finish in Sweden’s SAS Masters.

The Chigwell Row resident climbed to 36th in the European Order of Merit rankings after four days of consistent low scoring at the Arlandastad golf course in Stockholm, finishing with a score of five under par – four shots off eventual winner Peter Hanson.

The 19-year-old’s performance marks his third-best finish of the season after he finished runner-up to Thomas Levet in the Andalucian Open in March before a seventh place in the prestigious French Open in June.

And as if it needed confirming, Fisher’s display proves that he is a force to be reckoned with on the Tour, having already more than doubled his earnings from his debut year and comfortably cemented his place on the circuit for the 2009 season.

Last week, after almost a month without European competition, Fisher took no time to get back into the swing of things, opening up with two one-under par rounds to put him into contention.

A round of 68 on the third day catapulted him up the leaderboard and his third one-under par round of the week on the final day cemented his position in eighth.

There are still plenty of ranking points up for grabs this season for Fisher, with the KLM Open in Holland next on the agenda, which gets underway tomorrow(Thursday).

Meanwhile, in the same tournament Epping-based Simon Khan couldn’t match Fisher’s achievements as he failed to make the cut with a two-round combined score of 144, three shots off the required mark to make it through to the weekend.
