TERRY VENABLES is being lined up for a sensational return to Tottenham, according to reports.

The News of the World claim that the 65-year-old is wanted by the club to replace sporting director Damien Comolli.

The source adds that Comolli - who has come under fire following the sale of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane in the summer - could be on his way before the January transfer window.

And that would leave the door open for the shock return of Venables.

The club believe that the Dagenham-born former England boss can work alongside manager Juande Ramos - although no contact has been made.

Venables made over 120 appearances for Spurs in the 1960s, before becoming boss in 1987.

He spent four years in charge, winning the FA Cup in 1991, before being appointed as chief executive.

But he was forced out of the club in 1993 following a bitter feud with Sir Alan Sugar.

However, he has retained close links with current chairman Daniel Levy.
