EPPING FOOTBALL ROUNDUP

BUCKHURST HILL took their unbeaten run to five games with a routine 4-1 win over Leigh Ramblers.

The result moves the Roding Lane men to within one point of top spot in Essex Olympian League division one, and with a game in hand.

They fell behind to Joe Bright's tenth minute header but struck back moments later through Dave Burnage, before Andy Mavin gave them the lead from 12 yards on 25 minutes.

Stunning long-range efforts from fullbacks Justin Cummins and Charlie Tarten sowed up the game before half time.

Boss Phil Hernon said: “We were missing several key first teamers but the lads who came in really stepped up to the plate and showed how strong our squad is.

“It wasn't a particularly good game in difficult conditions, but we've got the result and we can move on.

"This is the sort of game we were losing last season so to come through it is pleasing.”

Hill travel to Leytonstone United on Saturday.

Defensive mistakes cost Epping dear as they went down 3-2 at Frenford Senior in the premier division.

Lee Ward's troops were in control at 1-0 and 2-1 up - the goals coming from Sean Garwood and Sanders Omeshbi respectively - but Senior grabbed the points with a late winner.

“We're still making the silly mistakes and getting punished,” said Ward. “But there are a lot of positives to come out of it.

“We're probably just two players, with experience in the right areas, short of being a decent team.”

Epping take on Burnham Ramblers reserves in the first round of the Essex Premier Cup on Saturday.

Debden continued their spectacular goalscoring form with a 10-1 rout of Bedwell Rangers in Herts County Senior League.

Six goals from Steve Ochiltree, a James Lee-Legon hat trick and the goal of the game from Joe Hall on his return to the team took Sports' tally to 32 goals in the last four games.

Player-boss Graham Smith said: “We are beating the teams we should be beating, and doing it convincingly.

"You can only beat what is in front of you so we can't ask for any more than that.

“But we've got some big games coming up in the next few weeks and it is important we keep our feet on the floor.”

Debden host premier division Knebworth in the Aubrey Cup on Saturday.

Loughton slipped to a narrow 2-0 defeat at home to Quendon Athletic in the Bishop's Stortford, Stansted and District League.

They travel to Birchanger on Saturday.
