CHIGWELL boys hockey team are kings of the county for the first time in their history after they topped the rankings in the Essex round of the Yazoo National U13 Schools Cup.
The team have now qualified for the East round of the competition as Essex champions, having won all seven of their matches in the round-robin format.
Bancroft and Coopers Coburn were both swept aside without conceding a goal and, in what turned out to be the final, Chigwell edged out Felsted 2-1, Conor Caplin scoring twice after the team had fallen behind.
Jonathon Robson was immense between the posts, while Jamie Colton, playing a year above his age, excelled up front.
Bishops Stortford College are their first opponents in the East round on March 17.
The victorious squad was as follows: Chris Halls (c), Jonathon Robson, Tom Turner, Matt Rutherford, Matt Higgins, Will Sibley, Ed Tyler, Conor Caplan, Sam Poulter and Jamie Colton.
