LOCAL LADS won silver medals at a Navy boxing contest which marks them out as potential stars of the future.
Frank Baker, from Walthamstow, and James Branch, from Leyton, impressed at the Royal Navy Schools Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) of England Champion-ships.
Twelve-year-old Frank, fighting out of Repton ABC gym, just missed out in the 40kg final against Dalton Smith of Steel City ABC.
James, 14, who represented Gator ABC, went close in the 70kg category but lost to Dean Rooney, of Furs ABC.
Ilford lad, Inda Basi, who is 12-years-old, also claimed silver in his 48kg final contest against Ben Lee, from Kettering.
The competition in Essex was the fourth annual event organised by the ABA and the Royal Navy.
Military chiefs hope youngsters will consider a career in the armed force as a result.
Captain of Naval Recruiting, Mike Davis-Marks, said: “We would like to offer all the boys involved our congratulations on their fantastic achievements. Over the past three years, our partnership with the ABA has proved a real success. The levels of tenacity and spirit, such as those shown this weekend, are of such value both in and out of the ring.
“By joining forces with the ABA, we are really able to help showcase the future talent of Britain.”
