A BROTHER and sister from Epping Forest Swimming Club cleaned up at the Disability National Junior Champion-ships in Sheffield, bagging a total of 20 individual medals between them.
James and Emma Hollis, pictured, from Theydon Bois, played a pivotal role in helping ‘Team East’ retain their trophy.
Team captain Emma swam to gold in every event she competed in, even breaking the British record for the 50m breaststroke.
As well as their incredible individual achievements, the pair were involved in securing four relay medals for their team.
The siblings also scooped Nationwide Junior Sports Awards after accumulating the highest number of points in their senior age group during the event.
Eighteen-year-old Emma, competing in her final junior swimming event, bowed out in style. She said: “I was really amazed to receive the prize for the second year in a row. It was a lovely way to finish off my last junior competition and a nice reward for all the hard work.
“I will never forget the team spirit I experienced at the DSE Juniors. They are a great team of younger swimmers and it is a pleasure to be their captain.
“The event is all about the younger swimmers developing their talent and being recognised for it. Our ‘Team East’ statistics showed 90 per cent of the races were personal bests for our swimmers.
“Although I will be too old to compete at this championship in 2011 I will be there to see the team achieve even greater success in the pool.”
