CHIGWELL School’s under-14s hockey team became the first side in the school’s history to make it through to the national finals of the English Schools Championships.
The boys, pictured, had already muscled their way past such big names as Bedford and The Perse to progress to the East finals, and there they recaptured their best form to win one game that saw them claim one of the two top spots.
The team first dispatched Gresham’s School, from Norfolk, 4-1, thanks to a brace of goals from Albert Padfield and further strikes from Rory Taylor and Henry Bate, with Josh Banfield and Will Godfrey outstanding in midfield.
However, a string of missed opportunities meant they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat against Bishop’s Stortford College.
But victory for Stortford over Gresham’s meant that Chigwell finished as runners-up.
Lucas Watts, Ramana Ahilan, Chris Halls, Saf Imtiaz, Jack Redmond, Curran Kalha, Conor Caplin, Adam Dackombe, Jack Good, Andrew MacGregor and Indergeep Gill also starred.
