OLD LOUGHTONIANS men’s team kept up their slim hopes of winning the Conference East title with a slender 3-2 victory over Harleston Magpies.
The Luxborough Lane side remain two points behind leaders Canterbury with just two games remaining.
Loughts took the lead at the weekend when Oliver Didham deflected in a Jamie Askam cross. Leroy Philips and a James Stedman volley added to the advantage, but the team had a late scare when Harleston scored twice.
A home clash against Chelmsford is their penultimate game of the season.
Meanwhile, the ladies’ team were forced to come from two goals down to rescue a draw at Harleston.
Loughts found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline and a player down after a sending off, but they battled back to salvage a point thanks to goals from Rachel Dunning and Anna Coppel.
Elsewhere, Waltham Forest ladies put more daylight between themselves and the relegation zone with a convincing 3-0 win over Gore Court. Anna Pearson scored early and the team grew in confidence, Katherine Abbie’s excellent solo goal and Gill Fraser’s strike securing the points
