A NUMBER of Orion Harriers runners competed in the recent Mini Marathon in London.

Matthew Moy was the club's highest finisher, claiming fifth in the boys 13-14 race, in which Danny Sach came 17th.

Alex Gorden was sixth in the boys 11/12 section, while Sarah Dudley was 17th and Lauren MacGregor 30th in the girls race of the same age group.

In the girls 15/17 category, Katherine Foy was ninth while Gavin Lewis completed Orion's contingent, coming home 24th in the boys 15/17.

Harriers opened their summer track and field season with a second place at the Young Athletes League Division One fixture at Newham Leisure Centre.

After achieving promotion last year the Chingford club are now competing against the top outfits from the south-east. U13 boys duo Shannon Taylor and Rhys McKay led the way. Taylor won the high jump while McKay was first in the 100m.

There were further encouraging performances from U13 girls Lauren MacGregor (second, 800m), Jay Andrews (first, 1200m) and Alice Buckmaster (second, long jump).

The U13 boys competed equally well, with McKay adding a high-jump win to his earlier sprint victory.

Alex Gordon won the 1500m, Tommy Black was first in the 75m hurdles and the high jump, while the 4x100m relay quartet of Craig Carter, Kadeem Morgan, Tommy Black and Shannon Taylor claimed another victory.

Carina Stroud won the U15 girls high jump, Laura O'Connor was second in the 1500m, and Diheema Rose, Jessica Kipps, Hollie Bibbey and Carina Stroud came second in the 4x100m relay.
