FOREST Athletic Men, the combined track team of the Eton Manor and Orion clubs, finished third in their first match of 2006.

With several younger team members competing in other events over the Bank Holiday weekend, it was left to the older generation to plug the gaps.

Their first track win of the day was claimed by Devon Douglas, who ran the 110m B race in 24.5secs. In the A event, Rory Venhorn clocked 21.5secs to take second.

In the 100m Ben Musem stopped the clock at 12.2secs for third in the A string, while Steve Timpson took sixth in the B string.

The 200m saw Rory Venhorn register 25.6secs for fifth and John Mahon also finished fifth in the B race with a time of 28.5secs.

In the 400m events, Steve and John Timpson gained fourth and sixth placings, while both Rory Vehorn and Davod Simosokwe took third in the 800m races, with times of 2mins 14.6secs and 2mins 26.0secs respectively.

The longest race of the day was the 5000m, in which Jonas Theto clocked 17min 04.3secs for second in the A and Jim Dawson ran 18min 29.4secs to claim victory in the B string.

Devon Douglas contested all the throws, recording 20.47m in the hammer, 25.17m in the javelin, 11.01m in the shot and 25.41m in the discus.

The jumps saw Rory Venhorn and Ben Musem team up to take second and third placings in the long jump, with the former leaping 5.92m and the latter 5.74m. In the triple jump, Venhorn cleared 11.31m for fourth, while Stephen Madge jumped 10.21m for third B.

Madge also teamed up with Phillip Chittock in the high jump, with Steve taking sixth in the A event and Phillip equal second in the B.

The team won third place in the 4x100m relay.

On Monday Manor's young athletes travelled to Ilford for day one of the Essex county championships. Natalie Harvey (right) came away with silver in the girls U15 javelin thanks to a throw of 21.20m.

In the boys under-15 200m, Omalulu Abidun ran 27.1secs to make the semi-finals, where he was run out of the placings near the line.

In the boys U17s Remi Sutovas clocked 26.9secs but failed to make the semi-finals, while Devon Douglas was fifth in the U20s discus after throwing 28.74m.
