WANSTEAD tennis youngster Michael Davies is looking to reproduce his 2005 form as this year's Sunday Telegraph Center Parcs Junior Tennis Grand Prix gets under way.

Davies finished fourth in last year's competition, which was staged at the La Manga Club in Spain, and he will be hoping to draw on that experience and go all the way in the 18 and under-ge category this year.

Over the past two years event organisers have doubled the number of age group Grand Prix qualifying events, providing even more opportunities for the youngsters to gain all-important leaderboard points.

Such is the popularity of the competition that the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) expect the total number of entrants to exceed 20,000, and the tournament's quality is exemplified by South Wales junior Olivia Scarfi, who built on her third-place finish last year to make continuous improvements to her game, which culminated in a victory at the 18-age group Masters to become British number one.

The top four players on the leaderboard at the end of the Grand Prix circuit will earn the right to compete in the finals, alongside a further two players selected as wild cards by the LTA.

This year's finals will again be staged at top venues, with Davies' age group competing on La Manga's famed red clay courts, on which the LTA bases its winter training programme.
