BANTHAM and Ongar Bowls Club opened the season with the annual ladies versus gents fixture which resulted in a win for the former (for the third consecutive year) by four shots.
The Essex and Herts Mixed League match at home to Standon and Puckeridge resulted in a win for Bantham and Ongar by 74 shots to 46. Bill Cook, Len Harris, Barry Baillie and Alan Topliff won 32-12, Jim Heppell, Laurence Eldred, Joan Cooper and Ron Oddy won 25-15 while Chris Baillie, Brian Issitt, Gerald Murfitt and George Finbow just failed on the last end by 17-19. Result 8 points to 2.
Further Leagues to commence include Chelmsford and District, Brentwood and District for men, Hartswood Ladies, Harlow District Ladies Triples League and the Mixed Senior Citizens League.
