LOUGHTON AC men and women's teams both achieved second place finishes in their League competition.

The wet weather meant difficult conditions for the athletes, but in the men's match at Watford, Gurmukh Sahans posted wins in the 110m hurdles (17.1s), the javelin (40m66) and the long jump (5m81).

Sahans also scored good points in the shot putt, discus and 400m hurdles.

Shaun deSouza Brady was in good form in the 200m and 400m and was well supported by John McCabe.

Paul Gilbert set a personal best in the high jump. Brett Underhill and Paul Regan covered the middle-distance events with team manager Gavin Harper and Scott Hurley put in a good performance in the 3000m steeplechase.

The women's team competed at Copthall Stadium, Barnet, where only two points separated them from the winning team at the end of the afternoon.

Philippa Brown, Joanne Ryan and Barbara Higgins all registered double victories in their events. Brown took hammer and discus titles, while Ryan won the 100m and 200m races and Higgins finished first in the pole vault and 400m hurdles. Amy Shillaker produced personal bests in the long jump and 200m.

In the U15 girls' events, Fiona Petersen (shot, discus and javelin), Charlotte Gibbins (100m and long jump) and Ellie Shillaker (100m, 200m and javelin) all recorded personal bests.
