WOODFORD athletes won seven gold medals at the Loughborough International meeting.

All the triumphant male athletes will be competing for the European Champions Clubs' Cup in Turkey this weekend and also at the British Athletic League Premiership match in Manchester on June 3.

Tim Abeyie confirmed his position as one of Britain's leading sprinters when he won the Loughborough International 100m with a personal best of 10.29 seconds.

Abeyie, who is coached by Linford Christie, has been invited to line up against world record holder Justin Gatlin and Commonwealth Games champion Asafa Powell in the Norwich Union Grand Prix at Gateshead.

In the strength events Emeka Udechuku recorded 58.90m to win the discus and followed that up with 18.40m to win the shot putt.

Andy Frost won the hammer throw with a distance of 71.47m.

Christian North cleared a season's best of 5.30m to win the pole vault while Tosin Oke came first in the triple jump with 15.99m.

In the 5000m Simon Plummer finished in second place in 14minutes 21.47seconds. In the women's events Jo Duncan won the shot putt with a throw of 16.83m, Joice Maduaka won the 100m in 11.50seconds and the 200m in 23.88seconds.

Stephanie Aneto finished third in the triple jump.

There were more high class performances at the Universities match at Oxford where events were affected by the bad weather.

Dan Bray took two second places in the 400m hurdles (56.72 seconds) and the 200m hurdles (24.98seconds) as well as coming third in the triple jump. Meanwhile at Ashton Athletic Track the rain robbed James Wright and Daniel Awde of a chance to score an impressive double in winning both the senior and junior decathlons at the combined events meeting promoted by the Woodford club.

Wright was leading the senior competition having won the long jump and the 110m hurdles and gained good points in the 100m, the high jump and the 400m and performed well in the shot and discus.

But with dangerous conditions in the pole vault and a long season ahead, Wright decided not risk injury by competing.

It was the same story in the junior event where Awde had won the 100m, the 400m in 49.39seconds and the 110m hurdles.

He finished second in the discus, the long jump and the high jump and was leading the junior competition when he also withdrew from the pole vault.

Awde was on course for a huge personal best performance.
