TWO local golf clubs remain on track to win the 2006 Leslie F Wood Championship after wins in their second-round matches on Sunday to make it through to the last 16.

Chigwell travelled to local rivals North Weald and came away with a comfortable 10.5 to 4.5 victory.

There was also similar success for Woolston Manor, who secured a convincing 11.5 to 3.5 victory over Thorpe Hall. Chigwell will now entertain Bentley on Sunday June 18, on the same day that Manor will travel to Canons Brook.

Toot Hill, Woodford, Theydon Bois and Chingford all crashed out of the competition.

Woolston Manor also remain on track to win the Essex Senior Team Trophy.

The Chigwell-based club secured a home win against local rivals North Weald on the same day that Royal Epping Forest also progressed to the third round after an away victory at Rochford Hundred.

Forest will now entertain Three Rivers, while Manor travel to St Clere's Hall in the last 16 in the competition in June.

Chigwell and Theydon Bois last week saw their participation in this year's event end after defeats at Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea respectively.

North Weald's Adam Winwood and Woolston Manor's Jack Margetts helped Essex secure a half point win over Hertfordshire in the Eastern Counties Foursomes. West Essex teenager Ross Spurgeon also helped the county to victory in the colts' recent 9-3 win over Hertfordshire.
