BOWLS: Bantham & Ongar edged a narrow battle with Elm Park 42-40 in the Ernzstein Plate League, gaining four out of the six points available.
Rita Stacey, Win Hyatt, Irene Carter and June Ashley won 29-21, while Beth Stables, Shirley Kinnison, Brenda Perrett and Doreen Oddy went down 13-19.
Meanwhile, the club’s progress in the Albert Crabb competition came to an end last week in the third round when they were beaten by the strong Connaught ladies. Despite winning the first away leg, the home team of Rita Stacey, Valerie Finbow, Irene Carter and Joan Barnes went down 26-11.
GOLF: Nine years after his first victory in this competition surveyor Bill Tyzack repeated his win in Woodford Golf Club’s Centenary Salver. He shot a nett 64 with a gross five-over-par score of 75. Zekia Alsanjak was second. Tyzack also won the Scratch Prize, albeit thanks to competition secretary Sean Marah’s self-disqualification.
FISHING: Debden’s members fished at Lakeland in Hatfield, and it was Wes John Speller that finished top of the pile. Second was Terry Churchill and third was Keith Wicker.
