Woodford Green made an impressive start to their preparations for the 2012 season by winning the Waltham Abbey Indoor Cricket League Cup.
The tournament included a selection of local clubs who had all competed in a league format since October. Essex's oldest club narrowly missed out on the league title but made no mistake when another trophy was up for grabs.
Their impressive bowling unit formed the basis for their finals day berth, with no opposition reaching 100 runs against them at any stage of the season.
It was this proficiency with the ball that told again on finals day. The Green dismissed Roding Valley for 50 in their semi-final and local rivals Chingford for 56 in the final, chasing both totals without the loss of a wicket.
The stars with the bat were Hamaad Sayyed and Jack Cossey providing Woodford Green with the winning partnerships in both games.
The cup victory was a promising sign for new chairman Anthony Palmer who was part of the winning team.
Palmer said: "It's a tremendous achievement for Woodford Green to win this trophy. We've comfortably beaten a Division One team in the final with a young side. This shows the potential that lies within the club, a potential that excites me as the new chairman."
