ATHLETICS

BUDDING athlete Joseph Dewar showed signs of his promising potential with a brilliant individual display at day one of the Essex county track and field championships.

The 12-year-old Woodford Green Athletic Club with Essex Ladies prodigy collected three of his team's six medals during the event at Thurrock.

The youngster broke his personal best for two of his three events in the boys U13, running 26.98secs in the 200m, recording 4.97m in the long jump, and clocking a new county record of 12.68secs to win the 75m hurdles.

Gold medals were also won by Alex Cornwell, who added to his growing trophy collection with a 4mins 3.65secs run in the U17 1500m, and Anthony Oshodi with a throw of 48.00m in the U17 discus.

Woodford also had a one-two finish in the boys U17 200m, with Aiden Lee's 22.41secs (PB) just pipping Sam Watts' 22.51secs effort.
