Manor youngsters perform well at first UKA track meet of the year

ETON Manor Athletic Club youngsters showed their potential at their first UKA track meeting of 2008 at Mile End.

Felicica Davies won the girls U17 100m in 12.9secs for a grade 3 UKA standard, but had to settle for second place in the 200m with a time of 26.3secs.

Also in the 100m, Jade Campbell clocked a fine 15.2secs for third place, and won the shot putt with 6.94m for a grade 4 UKA standard.

In the high Jump, Carolina Green took third A string, while Connie Lahiff won the B string with 1.30m.

They both then contested the 80m hurdles, Green taking second place A string, with Lahiff winning the B race in 19.2secs.

In the 800m, Kelly Chittock took third place then went on to win the B string shot putt.

The 4x100m relay team went on to finish the day by taking fourth place in 58.8 secs.

In the boys U17, sole representative Thomas Peacham took third place in the Hammer (22.82m), discus (21.45m) and the shot (8.41m).

Imogen Adams recorded a personal best time to take fourth place in the girls U15 800m, while Mary Finch achieved the same feat and position in the 1500m.

Ilayda Aktas took fourth place in the long jump with a leap of 3.75m.

In the boys U15, Yoje Kikanka finished second in the 800m with a PB of 2 mins 23secs. He then took second place in the high jump with 1.30m.

In the A string high jump, Kashif Jones finished third with 1.40m. He also finished third in the javelin.

In the hammer, there was a double win for the club when Andrew Peacham and Ryan Padnore threw 20.79m and 14.79m respectively.

They also teamed up in the shot, with Peacham finishing in fourth place and Padnore winning the B with 6.24m.

In the discus, Padnore finished second in the A event ahead of Peacham who won the B string.

In the boys U13, Michael Taylor took fifth place in the long jump A string, while Naweed Neziene finished fourth B string. Taylor also finished third in the high jump with 1.10m and fifth in the 100m with 15.1secs.

Also in the 100m, Omez Otuoyne also took fifth spot in 15.3secs. He then went on to take fifth place in the shot, while Naweed Neziene took second place B string.

Neziene and Otuoyne teamed up for the 75m hurdles, finishing third and second respectively.

The boys went on to finish fifth in the 4x100m relay.

There were some very fine performances from all the Manor athletes in the girls U13.

In the high jump, Courtney Simmonds won the A string with 1.20m. She also ran a leg in the 4x100m relay, which took the team to fourth place in 61.8 secs.

In the 800 metres, Nina Magill ran well and Joy Coburn took third place in the A race.

The 1500m saw debutant Tiffany Africa clock a personal best.

In the 75m, Georgia Green finished second in the A string, as Joy Coburn had to settle for third place. They also teamed up in the 150m.

Green also finished second in the long jump with a 3.85m effort.

The club's next meeting is on June 1 at Southend.

If anyone is interested in taking part, call in at Walthamstow pool and track on Mondays and Thursdays at 6.30 pm and ask for one of the club's coaches.
